How many bricks must be incorporated into the interior of the house?
Q. A house is designed to have passive solar energy features. Brickwork is to be incorporated into the interior of the house to act as a heat absorber. Each brick weighs approximately 1.8 kg. The specific heat of the brick is 0.85 J/g·K. How many bricks must be incorporated into the interior of the house to provide the same total heat capacity as 1.4 x10 ^3 gal of water?

A. 1.4 x10 ^3 gal of water @ 3.784 litres / gal = 5.3 X 10 ^3 litres

=5.3 X10^6 millilitres = 5.3 X 10^6 grams

----------------------

5.3 X 10^6 grams)(4.18joules /gC) = 2.21 X 10 ^ 7 joules / C
from water
----------------------
Bricks:
(1800 grams)(0.85 joules/ gK)= 1530 joules per brick

What creative interior display can create with ten white porcelain leaves?

Where do we start redesigning our house interior ?
Q. We've just finished completely renovating our house and it's virtually unfurnished. We now want to start decorating but every interior designer we speak to says "tell us what you want". The problem is, we don't know what we want! Where do we start?

A. Start with FUNCTION.

What functions do you want this room to serve?
====================================
for instance, you may know you want it as the dining room, but do you also expect the kids to study here, for this table to be used for board games, for this room to show off collections?

Room functions seem really straightforward, so most people gloss over them without thinking, but you need to be as specific as possible about this very early. Everybody knows the function of a kitchen, but do you want to have a home office there? You know you want to entertain in your living room, but does that mean close friends, a mix of ages, cocktail parties?

after that you can go to STYLE (Victorian, Edwardian, art deco, Atomic 50s, retro 70s, neo-classic, etc.) or color or mood (beachy, plantation, nautical, dramatic, restful, etc.)
for samples of various styles, try
http://interiordec.about.com/od/stylesofdecor/

But there are lots of other places to see styles, too. On the net, in designing magazines, at your friends houses, at hotels, in restaurants.

HGTV has an on-line quiz to help you ID your style at
http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/pac_ctnt_988/text/0,,HGTV_22056_33320,00.html

Anyway, pick Style, Color or Mood. Then you can work with the others.

The architecture and available sunlight will be major things that you pretty much have to work with the way they are.

if you have picked Functions, and either Style/color/mood an interior designer SHOULD be able to help. If they can't hep when you give them that info, go elsewhere.

Can anyone suggest where I could find someone who paints murals on interior walls?
Q. I've just moved house and I'm looking for someone who could paint some sportspeople (cricketers, rugby players etc) around the interior walls of my 8 year old son's room. Even a graffiti style would be fine.
I'm in Sydney.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks Chuck: unfortunately, the only ones I could find are soccer, skateboarding, basketball and grid iron. He's absolutely obsessed with rugby union/league and cricket. I'll keep looking though and thanks again.

A. May I suggest you visit your local Art College. I am sure there are a few top class would be artists who would be keen to do the work for you free as long as you let the person(s) take some pics of his/her masterpiece.
